Another World Record for Steve Edwards

On March 23, 2015, Steve Edwards, of the United Kingdom, finished a marathon and he got up the next day to do it again. In fact, Steve, at the age of 52, ran seven marathons in seven days! He completed the runs in a world record time for his age group, with an average time for each marathon of 3 hours, 22 minutes and 13 seconds.

Mannatech was one of the sponsors of the Bourton Roadrunners athlete, who lives in the Cotswolds town of Moreton-in-Marsh. In one race, he battled against gale force winds and driving rain which meant he beat his target by just 65 seconds in an average time of 3:28.55.

“I was really pleased to do it in an average time under 3 hours 25. The previous average record was 3.40 or something, so I thought if I got under 3.30 for all of them I’d be in with a chance,” he said.

His marathon records include:*

  • At the age of 28, he became the youngest athlete in the world at the time to run 100 marathons
  • Made a Guinness World Record™ for running 87 marathons in one year averaging 3 hours and 14 minutes for each
  • Made a Guinness World Record for running the fastest 10 marathons in 10 consecutive days
  • Holds the record for running 400 and 500 marathons in the fastest average finish time

“I’m now in my 5th year as a Team Mannatech athlete so let me quote you some up-to-date statistics. I started taking the products in July 2008 and since that time have run 126 marathons. If I compare these performances to my previous 126 marathons, my average finish time is nearly eight minutes quicker and the average frequency I’ve run these marathons has increased from one every 19.3 days to one every 13.5 days. Also consider the fact that 252 marathons ago, I wasn’t quite 39 years old. Now more than 11 years later, at age 50, I’m running marathons faster and more often, I guess the answer is clear. Better recovery, better health and with that the ability to train harder and therefore perform better.”** – Steve Edwards
